Beware when buying a "new" Xbox
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:37:35 PM »

So the other night my Xbox crapped out.  The next night my wife goes to the local Walmart to buy another one.  The clerk said he has one left which was returned earlier "unopened".  He showed her the seal was still intacked.  He opened it in front of her, swore it was never opened.  She buys it.  Well, when I opened it all of the packaging was unopened.  The first thing I noticed wrong was when I plugged my original composite cables into the new Xbox (the Arcade version only comes with A/V cables).  I wasn't getting any connection to the TV.  I opened the supplied A/V cables and got a picture.  The next thing I found wrong is when I opened the tray the game Jericho comes rolling out.  Now I know this was used.  The third thing wrong was there were 2 profiles to select, mine and another stored in the Xbox.  Now I'm like WTF.  I select my name, try signing into Live and the 4th thing wrong,     "This Xbox has been banned from Xbox Live"
So, we bring it back to the Walmart yesterday and get our refund, but what really gets me is they could care less that they got ripped off.  Anyway, sorry for this little rant I just wanted the brother DoGs to beware when buying new Xboxs.  And the other thing that pissed me off is Why couldn't it be a decent game that was left in the Xbox? Jericho.  WTF.

Sounds like someone did the Walmart Rental and then said that it was unopened.

It's probably sitting on the shelves now. Kudos to your wife for making the trip though!

Walmart has really tried everything they can to prevent this from happening, aside from Microsoft making the seals a little less easy to remove/replace.  Walmart even scans in the serial # of the box, to make sure you dont return a dead one in the new box.  People are getting a little more tech savvy, and swapping the innards of consoles for Walmart rentals now.  Sooner or later, there will be a restocking fee to help prevent this.  Until then, I think Wally World is the only retailer without the 15% return fee.

Your preaching to the choir man. Half of the guys on here could be blamed for using the "Wal-Mart rental program" and then a unsuspecting person (like yourself) receives the used one. Personally, I'd blame Gunner!   :funny:

Even if he never owned an xbox, I'd blame him anyway.
